In the Studio: Compulsively Obsessed

[In the Studio, August 18, 2011 /Image & Artwork: designslinger studio]

The pencil tip has been included in this photo for scale. There was no other way I could  think of to show you just how small the cutting end of a carving knife could get. The blade on the right measures in at 0.5mm, and I love it!

For some reason (insanity?) I find myself creating these teensy-tiny spaces in some of my drawings, which then need to be carved out. I can't seem to help myself. I guess I could make the overall image larger, or redraw the thing so I don't find myself in this position, but sometimes even the smallest change compromises the image too much and it turns into something I'm not happy with. So I stick to my guns, and have found knives that will get the job done. And because of those fine Pfeil-brand cutting blades and their tiny sizes (which allows me to make incredibly clean cuts into infinitely smaller spaces) I'm like a madman hovering over the linoleum delicately carving out little chunks of grey rubber. Plus, I find myself really getting into it. I wonder if there is a support group out there for obsessively compulsive, teensy-tiny carving maniacs?
