Ionic order [ahy-ON-ik AWR-der] n. the second of the classical Greek orders of architecture,
originated by the Ionian Greeks and characterized by a capital with large volutes, a fascinated entablature, continuous frieze, dentils in the cornice, and by its elegant detailing, which is less heavy than the Doric and less elaborate than the Corinthian.
