capital [KAP-i-tl] n. the topmost member, usually decorated, of a column, pier, pilaster or the like.

"Capital" is one of those basic architectural terms right out of Art History 101. The photographs are fanatastic.
Most people seem to know the word, but often misspell it - an "o" for the second "a" - plus it was nice to throw in a few different styles to show as examples, and glad they worked! As always, thanks for the very generous compliment!
