guilloche (gi-LOHSH) n. an ornamental pattern or border, as in architecture, consisting of paired ribbons or lines flowing in interlaced curves; often used for any ornament composed of interlacing lines, bands, ribbons or the like, leaving circular openings which are often filled with round ornaments.
