Finally, A Sunny Day
The day was dawning bright and clear.
We were going to have blue skies. And the clouds over the lake? They are a result of cold
air temps hovering over the warm water and stay off shore.
It was nice to see the sun. It meant that I could finally get out and take some pics
because it's been overcast and gray for days on end.
The temperature was hovering around 3°F and the high was predicted to be 10. So I
passed on the frost bitten fingers and frozen camera, and decided to stay home and enjoy the view of the sun from our warm, toasty apartment. That happens often here in January, gorgeous sunny days can end up being some of the coldest.
There are plenty of pics in the files from warmer weather, but I will brave the elements and
get out there in the sunshine. It just has to be at least 20 degrees. So maybe I'm being a baby, but this is our first winter in Chicago after all those LA years, and I'd like to keep my fingers a while longer.

I am a great admirer of Bertha Honore Palmer. Jan 1-3 I stayed at the historic luxe Palmer House and visited the exhibit of her artifacts at the Chicago History Museum. Despite the frigid temperatures, Chicago was at its most beautiful under those brilliant blue skies. What an amazing week-end.
I have really appreciated your photos of and comments about Chicago 1880s-1920s, many of which would be lost to the untrained eye. I preserve them in a file under 'Bertha Honore Palmer.'
However you are planning to modify your site, please do not abandon this special
historic Chicago perspective.

The Palmer House, the frigid temps and a beautiful city. What a great combination! We're not sure what our futures hold, but as long as we're in Chicago, it will remain a focus for two designslingers.

Sunny and a high of 80 in LA - we call it earthquake weather, remember? I hope that it's not an omen.

No, no omen. Just another day in LA.
