patera (PAH-tera) n. the representation of a flat, round dish or disk, generally more or less decorated in low relief, often with acanthus leaves or rose petals;
used to ornament a panel, frieze or other element of mostly classical architecure. Often mistakenly applied to the term rosette.
Like little mandalas in all their simplicity.
