Another Opening, Another Show

Friday evening, over 70 galleries opened the fall art season on the same night. With so
much to see between 6 and 9 pm, we decided to confine the night's viewing to the two largest concentration of galleries, one in the West Loop and the other in River North district.

The galleries occupy spaces that were once home to meat and produce wholesalers.
Although the art crowd is slowing moving into the neighborhood, the old market is still buzzing with tradespeople
during the day selling vegetables, eggs, cheese, butter and slabs of meat. But, it gets very quiet at night under the yellow/orange glow of sodium vapor lights.

The art crowd was swarming though. We climbed stairways packed with art lovers, art

observers, art scenesters and tourists. There was so much art to look at and so many people, our heads were spinning.

We saw some interesting work by Karen Savage and Robert Horvath at Packer Schopf;
Caleb Weintraub at Peter Miller
; Stephen Dinsmore at Anne Loucks; Stanley Lewis, Don Southard and Jeremy Long at Linda Warren; and Vivian Sundaram at Walsh. We didn't make it to all the galleries in the area, let alone getting over to River North to see what was being shown in that part of town. But based on the all of the empty beer bottles and plastic cups with wine residue that we saw piled everywhere, a good time was had by all.
