The Color of Summer's Heat

We found ourselves standing under the glass ceiling of the Lincoln Park Conservatory on

a hot, humid August afternoon. I know it sounds crazy, but we wanted to get out of the direct sun, it was even too uncomfortable under the shade of a tree, so we went inside.

As we wandered through the pathways in between towering plants, I caught sight of a
brilliant red flower. The color was as intense as the temperature.

I became aware of all the other reds in the room and how we associate color with feeling.
If you're hot, what color pops into your brain?

Nearby were two plants with yellow flowers, and I thought about the sun and its intense

heat.

Red seemed to be everywhere. Was it the sweltering temperature that made me notice,

or was it simply the incredibly beautiful color that captured my attention? Maybe it was just the early stages of heat stroke.

When we stepped back outside, I was surprised at how much cooler it had actually been
in the building. I started to feel like one of those little Red Hot candies. By the time we got home, I was red, and realized that I had forgotten to put on some sunscreen. But, it wasn't pretty, so no pics will be posted.
