It's Time to Light the Candles

Last night was the start of the 8 day celebration known as Chanukah. It would take one
long posting to go into the meaning and significance of the Jewish holiday, so click here for a thorough explaination. I was interested in finding out more about the main decorative element of the festival - the Menorah, and discovered that there are two types; one for the Temple and one for celebrating Chanukah. The difference is that the Chanukiyah candelabrum has more places for candles than its Temple counterpart.

There seem to be as many types of Menorahs as there are people to create them, but you
do have to follow a few rules. Other than that, you can be very creative with your Menorah design. I've even seen candelabrums made out of different types of pasta! So, to all our friends commemorating the Yomim Tovim, whether with a traditional or non-traditional Chanukiyah - "l'chaim!"
