New Dandyism

Over the last few centuries Dandyism has been described in many different ways. Whether romantically described as men who designed their own personalities and broke radically with the traditions of the past or with disdain, described as a reproach to the responsible citizen of the middle class.

True dandies are revolutionaries, not just in dress, but also in lifestyle. They didn't just dress differently FIRST, they acted differently FIRST. They were self-created men who consciously designed their own personalities and broke radically from the traditions of the past. And they were imitated to no end.

There has been a new cultural resurgence of dandyism. It has moved beyond the over used and often misappropriated "metro sexual". Men have a new appreciation for fashion and design. Men may have never cared so much about how they look in decades, perhaps centuries, and probably have never been so proud of the time they put into their appearance.

Take a closer look and you will find that today's street fashion is taking a modern approach to classic forms and silhouettes. Not just by re-interpreting classic pieces by applying modern materials, colors, and patterns, but also by adding details to increase usability and comfort.

Dandyism.net
Like the dandy, Dandyism.net aims to be effortlessly elegant, caustically witty, coldly superior and dryly amusing. Its editorial policy is caprice. It turns its diabolical monocle on the past and the present to dispassionately decree who’s a dandy and who’s not, who is innovative and who is eccentric, who is classic and who is bland, who is dashing and who is ostentatious, who sets styles and who is a slave to fashion.

Georgio Armani - Men
For Fall Winter 2008-09 Giorgio Armani’s signature collection was simply ‘regal’. In a collection that harked on old Hollywood glam, Mr. Armani sent gentlemen down the runway in tailored looks with fedoras on head and gloves in hand. Three piece suits and quilted velvet blazers were made relevant and modern for today. The nostalgia of a by-gone era was subtlety implied and glam came through without the tacky glitz.

Madame Dowding Corsetiere

For men to wear girdles actually isn't a new phenomenon. In the early 19th century, some fashionable men in England were known to wear them. Drawings circulated in high society at the time portrayed men as dandies laced up in corsets. In 1899, an ad for Madame Dowding, a ladies' corsetiere in London, also advertised versions for men, including a model called "The Marlboro."
